Animorphs AND Young Jedi Knights? Omg.

I DEFINITELY had LOTS of friends as a small child and DID NOT spend most of my childhood running around PRETENDING I had friends like Rachel and Marco and Jaina SUPER FUN TIMES.

Also anyone who thinks Rey isn’t CLEARLY Jaina repackaged is fooling themselves CLEARLY THAT’S WHO SHE IS LIKE DUH.

Did you ever get suckered into Junior Jedi Knights and the adorable bunny-hamster Jedi Master that they had?

Wow did that whole plotline get dark when the Yuuzhan Vong started invading.

omgosh NO????? WHAT???

For EU stuff I mostly read 1.) Jaina/Jacen Young Jedi Knights stories, and 2.) the Obi-Wan Padawaan series by… holy shit, was it Garth Nix? No wonder it was so stupid good. The one with ~~Xanatos~~, ahahaaaaaaa. Which, I thought I was the ONLY PERSON ON EARTH to know about the fucking angst factory of Xanatos until I saw him mentioned recently as like, original trash baby of the Star Wars universe and I was like “SOMEONE ELSE OUT THERE REMEMBERS THIS FUCKER.”

But yes, those two series (and a very brief toe-dip into Rogue Squadron until I got… bored, or maybe the Latin-athelete games were coming up and I got super focused on those?? and dropped the series hard) were the only tastes I ever got of the EU, though I ~know of~ other things just from nerd culture.

HEY GUYS ANY OF YOU REMEMBER XANATOS??? FUCK.

anyhoos.

(The one book in the series about the warring planet that had no adult-aged class anymore, just very old and very young because of a decades-long civil war FUCKED ME RIGHT THE FUCK UP man that was a good one. Where Obi-Wan defected from his Jedi orders for like a hot minute because he got all swept up in revolutionary spirit? Oh my sweet child, young Obi-Wan. :}}}} )

I got into Junior Jedi Knights solely because it was taking too long for the YJK series to continue after the original six. The books are okay, but they have this weird plot hole about how the twins are never at the Praxeum at the same time as Anakin, who somehow attended before them?

Anyway, here’s the adorable Master Ikrit: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ikrit

As you might expect he didn’t last much longer than Anakin did in the NJO novels. Now when I look at him, all I can see is Kyubey from Madoka Magica. “Jedi Contract?”

PS You need to read the All New All Different Avengers Annual, aka the Ms Marvel Fanfiction Special.

pages 6 and 7 from The Avengers (1998) #38 by Alan Davis, Mark Farmer, Tom Smith, Kurt Busiek and Albert Deschesne

Alan’s not fond of drawing characters standing around assessing things rather than actually actively doing stuff. But he’s excellent at both!

I read the description and though “surely it’s not actually like that”

Did anyone else click on this expecting Dr. Blight from “Captain Pollution” episode of Captain Planet?

The next move in the Marvel Obscure-Off

I’ve come to the conclusion that many of the All-New All-Different Marvel writers are having an informal contest to see how many obscure, random characters they can reintroduce in their books.

At the moment, Cullen Bunn is ahead thanks to “Deadpool and the Mercs for Money” bringing back both Caroline LeFay AND Lord Deathstrike amongst many others that I had to google to see if they were pre-existing characters. Al Ewing used Lord Chaos and Master Order in “Ultimates”, Gerry Duggan made Stingray a Deadpool supporting cast member, Gilgamesh was a main character in the now-departed “Hercules”, etc. etc.

Nick Spencer really put a swerve into the race with “Sam Wilson: Captain America” #9. Here’s the scenario: a criminal is ambushed from behind and is about to be taken in by what is clearly a vigilante. Before the reveal on the next page, I guessed that it was the Scourge of the Underworld. Nope.

The Watchdogs? No. The Sons of the Serpent? Not them either. USAgent? No, but hopefully Spencer can do something interesting with him. The Jury (even though they’re technically Spider-Man characters)? Not technically that obscure, but it’s close.

Never in a million years would I have guessed that Americop would reappear. Actually it’s the Americops, so that’s another army of vigilantes roaming the streets of New York. Mark Gruenwald wrote Captain America for a full decade and introduced a lot of characters, but holy cow, I would’ve expected Justice Peace of the Time Variance Authority before getting this deep into Gruenwald’s character bank.

Last day cosplay round-up!!

Did Lex Luthor have an alternate Moondragon cosplay? That’s who I thought it would be until I scrolled down and saw the outfit.

After he won a National Book Award, and one of the MacArthur Foundation’s so-called genius grants, no one anticipated Ta-Nehisi Coates’ next move – into comic books. Coates has written the latest installment of Marvel's Black Panther story, which follows an African king with superhuman strength and intellect.

Ta-Nehisi Coates Hopes ‘Black Panther’ Will Be Some Kid’s ‘Spider-Man’

I cannot wait to go read this. -Mabinty

This book is fantastic.

Deadpool, killing his own parents in Deadpool #34 (Vol.3)
by gerryduggan, Brian Posehn, scottkoblish and Val Staples

In retrospect it’s kind of amazing that such a huge plot point was in one of the inventory issues, especially the one mocking Rob Liefeld’s art style.

The second part of my “Secret Wars” review. The good, the bad, and whatever the deal with Sinister Carol is.
